Ayurveda: The Science of a long and healthy life
Ayurveda in Sanskrit means “the science of a long and healthy life” and is a very vast and complex medical system. It looks back on 5,000 years of tradition and its roots in the Vedas, the ancient Indian sacred texts.
Ayurveda deals with the human being from all points of view, physical, mental and spiritual and deals with diseases as much as the normal health status. The aim is to help the sick to be healed, and healthy people to maintain good health and prevent disease.
A central role in Ayurveda is done by three vital energies (doshas) that are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These determine, through their state of balance or imbalance in relation to the individual constitution, the state of well-being or the individual’s disease. According to Ayurveda the individual is the unique and unrepeatable expression of the combination of these three fundamental principles that influence the personality and the physiological constitution.
The aim of Ayurveda is to provide all the practical knowledge necessary to restore or maintain the perfect balance of the doshas of mind and those of the body. In fact, the balanced interaction of the three doshas provides integrated and healthy functioning of all organs of the body.
All over the world people look for the healthiest medicine, without harmful side effects. Ayurveda is more than just a collection of various herbal formulations, is a holistic and scientific system based on a profound philosophy leading to a long and healthy life without diseases.
